Our Journey

Heritage Baptist Church was planted on September 1st, 2024, in Conway, SC. The location of Conway was a strategic choice due to the rapid population growth. By 2030, another 1 million people will have moved to South Carolina, and a large portion of them will be moving to Horry County. A lot of these people are not professing evangelical and currently there are not enough churches to house them. South Carolina would have to plant 30 churches a day to keep up with all the lostness coming to our state. The vision of HBC was to plant a church that is welcoming and evangelistic to reach Conway. Another value of HBC is one-on-one discipleship and spiritual growth. But since the beginning, HBC has emphasized confessionalism and doctrinal strength. All of this is reflected in HBC’s three values, “Warmth,” “Health,” and “Strength.”

HBC began meeting at the Fairfield Inn by Coastal Carolina University’s campus in September. There, we met in a conference room that would hold 35 people. Over a few weeks, we outgrew this and moved into the larger conference room to accommodate space for our growing congregation.

As HBC continued to grow in number, we also grew in challenges. The Fairfield Inn would no longer meet our spatial needs, and so we explored many other opportunities and venues over the course of several months. Then an opportunity opened at the Conway B&B Theatre. We began renting available auditoriums in April of 2025, but again were faced with difficulty housing everyone. We were then allowed to remodel an abandoned and damaged auditorium for our use in August of 2025. This allowed us more time for fellowship on Sunday mornings and a place to host everyone for Wednesday night services.

While we had a midterm solution for where we would gather and worship, HBC leadership took this time to press on with searching for a property. In October of 2025, several properties were being considered by HBC for purchase, but in the Lord’s kind providence, all of them fell through. Then at the beginning of 2026, a door began to open. A 3-acre parcel of land on Highway 905 became available. The process of negotiation and closing took a great deal of time, with many bumps along the way. HBC family interpreted this as the Lord testing their resolve to endure hard challenges. By His grace, we closed on the purchase of this land on July 1st, 2026.

Would you consider partnering with us?

As we prepare to enter into the next phase of our story, we would kindly ask you to consider partnering with us. With your help, we can build on our new land. We are so excited to see how the Lord continues to move in and through our church to accomplish the Great Commission. Having a building to gather and worship in is only part of it. This future building will be an outpost to reach the Conway community for Christ. If you would like to give, please see the link below, where you can designate your gift to Heritage Baptist Church.
